Bahamas, U. S. partner to host second Social Crime Prevention Workshop

November 9, 2015

For the second year the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) has partnered with the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Education and The Bahamas Crisis Center to provide a course on Social Crime Prevention.

Members of the PADF, U.S. Embassy and Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) stopped by The Freeport News to explain the motive behind the upcoming course to take place on the Island, beginning at the end of the month.

Charo Walker, Consultant with PADF stated that in order to help redress gender-based violence challenges, the PADF’s Resistance and Prevention Program (RAPP) in collaboration with the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) have come together to launch the United Nations supported 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign in The Bahamas.

Walker said that since November 25 has been set aside by the United Nations as ‘International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women’ it is fitting that the course has been set for this time. “This year the root causes of violence, and prevention techniques by implementing and applying practical approaches to problem solving and situational crime through action planning will be examined,” Walker shared.
